  1. Follow Me

From the recording Truth's Banner

Jesus told his disciples, "Follow Me"... and Psalm 16:8 says, "I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken."

Lyrics

Follow me
I say, follow me
But if you’re looking at yourself
How can you follow me

Follow me,
I say, follow me
Your gaze must only be on me
If you’re to follow me

Follow me
I say, follow me
I lead you, not you lead me
So keep your eyes on me.

Follow me
I say, follow me
I must go ahead of you
To give you victory

You must stay close
So you can follow me
Even in the dark
I’m your visibility.
Yes, you must stay close
So you can follow me
Even in the dark
I’m your visibility

Follow me
I say, follow me
You must listen and then heed
All that you hear from me.

Follow me
I say, follow me
May take some courage and some trust
It’s Me you must believe.

Follow me
I say, follow me
It is with me, you must agree
And then you will be free

Follow me
I say, follow me
You’ll find your way
And you will see
If you will follow me.

Keep your eyes on me
I give victory
Visibility
Heed all you hear from me
It’s me you must believe
Then you’ll be free
If you follow me

Follow me
I say, follow me
But if you’re looking at yourself
How can you follow me

Follow me,
I say, follow me
Your gaze must only be on me
If you’re to follow me

Follow me
I say, follow me
I lead you, not you lead me
So keep your eyes on me

Follow me
I say, follow me
I must go ahead of you
To give you victory

You must stay close
So you can follow me
Even in the dark
I’m your visibility
Yes, you must stay close
So you can follow me
Even in the dark
I’m your visibility

Follow me
I say, follow me
You must listen and then heed
All that you hear from me.

Follow me
I say, follow me
May take some courage and some trust
It’s Me you must believe.

Follow me
I say, follow me
It is with me, you must agree
And then you will be free

Follow me
I say, follow me
You’ll find your way
And you will see
If you will follow me.

Keep your eyes on me
I give victory
Visibility
Heed all you hear from me
It’s me you must believe
Then you’ll be free
If you’ll follow me

Devotional:

Who is at “your” CENTER? You? or Christ ?
When you make a decision, Is it based on what will gratify you and your desires or ambitions? or what will gratify the Holy Spirit and His desires?
Let’s go even deeper: Do you ask, “Is my agenda God’s?”...or do you ask “Is God’s agenda mine?”
Do you see the difference in focus? So many of God’s people are trapped in their own agendas. He wants them freed.

Though a simple message, You have to be looking at the one you are following to get to where that person desires to lead you. The destination God has in mind for you will only be reached as you change your focus and put it upon Him, away from “self”. To be preoccupied with either your own accomplishments or your own failures leaves no room to be enamored with the Lord alone. His job is to shepherd us—our job is to follow. John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. Yet we often get “mixed up” and expect God to follow US in our endeavors. We, like dumb sheep, do go astray, and yes, He’ll come after us to “rescue us” on occasion, but the task to follow is indeed ours. If we are not “following” we will end up in a dangerous place.

Matthew 14:28-31
And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”
If we keep our gaze on Christ...and faith in our hearts...we can do the impossible as Peter did. It was his “loss of gaze” on Christ, and looking at the storm instead, that caused his sinking. The same is true for us too. Our gaze must only be on HIM...to follow. And miracles do await us.

CHILDHOOD GAME TEACHES US WE MUST KNOW THE VOICE OF AUTHORITY, TO FOLLOW:
Did you ever play the game “Simon Says” as a child?
“Simon says, Stand on One Foot.” (so you all stand on 1 foot)
“Simon says, Touch your nose” (so you all touch your nose)
“now turn around” (those that turned around—are OUT)…
Why? They didn’t hear “Simon Says”. Such a simple game, yet spiritual lessons can be gleaned from it. These mistakes were made by the ones who got “out”:
They didn’t follow “correctly”.
They let down their guard.
They didn’t recognize the “true authority” of the command.
They were too quick to act without knowing for sure who WAS commanding them.
In a spiritual application, we are to be alert and “tune in” to the voice of Christ within us. And if we hear someone or something, not of him, we are NOT to heed it.
John 10:5
And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
Proverbs 14:15
The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Here are just a few questions to discern if it’s the Lord who is telling you to do something:
Does it lead to righteousness, or sin?
Is it scriptural? We need to know God’s Word in this hour. Reading it will be the best use of your spare time.
Does your own heart (conscience) bear witness?
Is it born of LOVE? Or an act of LOVE?

GOD’S PROMISE TO GUIDE:
Psalm 32:8
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will guide you with mine eye.
JESUS COMMANDS “FOLLOW ME”:
In Matthew 16:24 “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
In John 8:12 “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.“
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GIVEN US AS A GUIDE
John 16:13
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.”

WARNING: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU “DO NOT FOLLOW”:

Isaiah 50:10-11 “Who among you fears the Lord? Who obeys the voice of His Servant? Who walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord and rely upon his God. Look, all you who kindle a fire, Who encircle yourselves with sparks: Walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks you have kindled — This you shall have from My hand: You shall lie down in torment.”

Basically this passage is warning those who fear and obey the Lord, to be still when He is silent and you haven’t any direction given, for we will find ourselves in that position at one time or another. For if we open our own doors and walk into things He hasn’t led us into (i.e. we’re not “following” him but our own leading)...then we will lie down in torment. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather not have that “consequence”.

WAITING—IN ORDER TO “FOLLOW”:
If God is not making the pathway clear “to follow” , the
secret is to stay close to Him in your heart, and to patiently endure the WAIT….it may be even a long wait. As we are seemingly BLIND, He remains our light. Even as we go through a very dark time, He is still there.
If you are faithful to wait upon the Lord you will renew your strength. Here’s an encouraging scripture about waiting (to follow).

Lamentations 3:24-26
The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

AGREE WITH GOD
God IS God... and He isn’t going to conform to you. You must agree with Him to be free...Then you’ll find your way...you’ll see.
I Bless you. Remember God uses those who learn
“to follow”… HIM. We must all be “followers” of God before we can ever become “leaders” of men. We have a wonderful, worthy Lord to follow, and we can be assured “The Blessing is truly “ours” to follow. We will be FREE.
